VBS – What a journey

VBS this year was “Journey Egypt” and it was quite a journey for a host of folks around our church, not only this week but also for weeks leading up as all the preparations were made for hundreds of kids from all over who came and heard the good news of Christ and had lots of fun along the way.

Jesus said let the children come, and boy did they… over 400 children filled our worship center and all the classrooms were overflowing with pre-K through 6th-graders.  I had the chance to lead the music for the opening each day with the help of several volunteers who came together to volunteer their time.  We had so much fun teaching the kids new songs and getting volunteers up on the stage with us doing hand motions and hopping around as we Praised God together.  So now, it’s Friday, and we’re all pretty tired, but it was totally worth it!  It was so awesome seeing the children praising God, without holding back at all.  Very refreshing!  What a great journey, and it’s only beginning…

Well, we are 1 week post-move and I must say that we can actually see about half of the floor – the rest is still covered in boxes!  However, we would still be unloading the truck if it weren’t for all the help we received from folks from our church. They were amazing. So were Lisa’s Mom and step-Dad.  They came for a “visit” which hasn’t amounted to anything more than a chore, working all day every day to help us get settled here in our new home.

They have been so helpful to us, not only right now, but in years past as well. About 12 years ago, when I owned a recording studio in Fort Worth, I decided it was time to expand. I took over a new building that was 2 1/2 times the place I currently occupied.  Gale and Ross came over EVERY SINGLE DAY for 60 days straight to help get the building ready. It was probably the single most generous thing I’ve ever seen. They did it simply out of love for us.

Even though that was years ago, I still remember it like it was yesterday.  It really taught me about what it means to “be there” for someone, to really live out your love for someone else. I hope I can live up to their example they have shown me with their actions and their lives.

To everyone who helped us (and are still helping us) get moved in – “THANK YOU” so much!

...please don't let this happen...

wanna get away?

Well, it’s finally here. Moving Day. Actually, it’s more like moving weekend. We get the keys at noon today and then the fun begins.

Of course, if packing, cleaning and the like is what you consider “fun”, then we’ve been having oodles of it for a few weeks already. We are excited for a number of reasons, though – mostly to begin to feel more “at home” here. It would be nice to settle in a bit and develop some more friendships and really cultivate the ones we’ve already started.  Thank you, God, for providing a great house for us to call home for the next couple of years.  We are truly blessed.
